Mr. Naveen Jindal, Executive Vice -Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL), one of the leading luminaries of the strong JINDAL ORGANISATION, has been a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra Constituency, Haryana since 2004.
A member of the Congress Party, Mr. Jindal is the only industrialist who contested and won the Lok Sabha election at a very young age. The victory was a major achievement because Mr. Jindal, a first time contestant, was pitted against Mr. Abhay Singh Chautala, son of Shri Om Prakash Chautala (then Haryana’s Chief Minister). Mr. Jindal beat Chautala by an astounding margin of 160,190 votes.
A true patriot at heart – he, single-handedly took up the cause of restoring in Indians a national pride, choosing the Tricolour as his symbol. As a result of his decade long struggle, the Hon’ble Supreme Court in a historic judgment on 23rd January 2004 held that the right to fly the National Flag freely, with respect and dignity is a Fundamental Right. His views on the display of the National Flag by the citizens of India have been pioneering and trail blazing. He strongly felt that the restrictive clause of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, be amended. He once again took up the matter with the government for allowing the wearing of the Tiranga on the dresses in a respectful manner. He raised this issue in the Parliamentary Standing Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs, and with the Government of India, stating that the display of National Flag on sports gear, T-shirts and other clothing enhances respect for the flag and does not in any way disrespect it. With the passing of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) bill unanimously by the Parliament, in the winter session of 2005, now under the aegis of the law every citizen, can legitimately wear, for the first time, the National Flag on clothes or caps with the tricolor printed on them in a respectful manner.
It is the same zest for the Nation, which is his propelling force towards Politics. Education, population stabilisation and weeding out corruption from public life are the key political agenda he is keen to implement. Mr. Jindal’s untiring efforts have transformed the face of Kurukshetra from being a sleepy town to a modern, developed city which is on the threshold of becoming a major tourist destination.
He has made a remarkable change in basis amenities and infrastructure, enhanced health care system and education facilities of the constituency by incorporating the best practices of business management in politics. “It’s all about managing resources, managing people and wiping out corruption”, says Mr. Jindal.
Besides spending Rs. 10.92 crore from the MPLAD Fund, Mr. Jindal spent a sum of Rs. 47.55 crore from personal fund for the overall development of the constituency and society.
He draws a lot of inspiration & courage from his revered father, Late Shri. O P Jindal and Smt. Sonia Gandhi, President, Indian National Congress.
Mr Jindal says his main reason to join politics is to reach more and more people to usher in better times. He says that the task ahead is tough and arduous. “I would like to dedicate my life for the betterment of our people. There are many challenges, but I will definitely overcome them as I am used to bigger challenges in life.”
The world political depends on idealists and patriots such as Mr. Naveen Jindal. As a Brazilian, I understand that even with all cultural distance between Brazil and India, the problems are the same…, much bureaucracy and corruption, with little work and little intention to change the social inequalities that oppress our people and benefit a class, prestigious by capital. The law is for everyone and not to few… That is why Mr. Naveen Jindal, that you began his public life by the correct path, because it is a member of parliament (MP) that you can start to change this situation. I admire their work and their positions. Congratulations !!!
